Gobble! Gobble! It’s Cheaper this Year. 0

According to the annual shopping survey by the American Farm Bureau, a typical thanksgiving meal will cost less this year than it did last year. Wonder what the grand savings would be?

Well according the the survey in 2009, we save a whopping $1.70 – an incredible and unbelievable 4 percent less than last year’s meal.

A typical thanksgiving meal – including turkey, cranberries, stuffing, sweet potatoes and pumpkin pie – will cost $42.91 this year, compared with $44.61 in 2008.

Giving the economy some credit, that’s the first price drop in five years. Another interesting fact is for October the Bureau of Labor Statistics  report on average hourly earning shows that it will take about nine minutes less to earn the cost of the ingredients this year compared to last year.

A year ago it took two hours and 26 minutes to earn the meal while this year it will only take a very short two hours and 17 minutes.

The biggest contributor to the price drop from 2008 was a gallon of milk which cost $3.78 a year ago and is down to $2.86. The cost of the main course, a 16-pound turkey, dropped from $19.09 a year ago to $18.65.

Don’t spend this enormous savings all in one place! I am so excited, my pockets feel heavier already!
